The new choir organ of Linköping Cathedral, built by the Swiss firm Metzler Orgelbau, was inaugurated on 12 October 2025. To mark this significant occasion, ten composers were commissioned to write new works for the instrument. I was honored to be among them, and my contribution received its world premiere during the organ’s inaugural year.
From the outset, I knew that my composition should embody both celebration and virtuosity. At the same time, I wanted to create a work that would be practical and attractive for frequent performance. This led me to aim for a duration ideally suited to a postlude—approximately three to three and a half minutes. (At the indicated tempo, the piece lasts 3 minutes and 21 seconds.)
Before composing, I revisited several of my favorite organ works: Francis Poulenc’s Concerto for Organ, Timpani and Strings (1938), Johann Sebastian Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, Petr Eben’s Landscapes of Patmos (1985), and Louis Vierne’s Carillon de Westminster, first published in 1927. The latter was inspired by the famous chimes of the clock tower at the Palace of Westminster in London. Listeners may discover echoes, quotations, or perhaps merely subtle musical allusions to these beloved masterpieces woven into the fabric of Jubilate.
Although the work is entirely effective as an organ solo, the addition of percussion brings an extra layer of brilliance, colour, and festive energy to the music.

Daniel Berg is a Swedish composer, musician, and professor in classical percussion at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and at the Academy of music and drama in Gothenburg.
In his passion to promote the marimba as a solo- and chamber music instrument, Daniel has worked intimately with a number of composers who have written original music for the instrument. This includes more than 300 world premier for solo and chamber works. Daniel Berg is a marimba artist of Bergerault and Elite Mallets.
As a composer Daniel has written a lot for solo marimba like Mistral (for Michael Burritt), Phoenix (for Robert van Sice) and Yán Jiâng (for the Taiwan World Percussion Competition). His music for percussion ensemble have been appreciated and often performed like Kroumata (for sextet) and Arctic Nights (for quintet) - all published by Edition Svitzer.
